How the triathlon unfolded
On Saturday morning, nearly 200 athletes gathered on the shore of Liptovská Mara to line up for the first discipline – a 500 m swim. From the very first meters, determination and sporting spirit could be felt, but there were also plenty of smiles and cheering. After a quick change from wetsuits to dry clothes, the 49 km cycling leg followed, testing participants’ endurance on a route around Liptovská Mara, through the Demänovská Valley, and up to Biela Púť in Jasná. The finale was the run, where everyone battled not only kilometers but also their own minds. The 6 km run from Biela Púť up to Chopok with an elevation gain of 900 m challenged every triathlete.
What the organizer Yaksha revealed
“We organized this event with the future in mind. We mainly worked on it because we wanted it to serve as a zero edition, to prepare for the first official one. The plan was to bring together triathlon club communities, all enthusiasts, and at the same time present triathlon to the general public – and I think we succeeded 110%. This is all preparation for something bigger we are working on, and we’re excited to make it happen,” said Michal “Yaksha” Novotný, organizer of the UpTogether Triathlon.
The zero edition was a test not only for the athletes but also for the whole team. Despite minor organizational challenges, everyone walked away satisfied with themselves and motivated to continue.
Participants’ experiences
Many of the participants experienced their very first triathlon. “It was beautiful, but also tough. The run up to Chopok was a real test, and it didn’t come for free,” shared one triathlete.
For seasoned triathletes, Liptov was a great opportunity to train in stunning surroundings. The natural backdrop of the Tatras and the lake gave the event a truly unique character.
Why you should come again next year
With its zero edition, the UpTogether Triathlon immediately became an event that brings people together and builds community. Beyond athletic performance, it offered experiences, friendships, and the motivation to push beyond one’s own limits.
If you missed the start this year, don’t worry – next year promises something even bigger. More energy, improved courses, and above all, an unforgettable atmosphere.
