SKI Šachtičky is renowned for its family-friendly atmosphere. The less commercial environment provides a pleasant and peaceful setting for your family, creating ideal conditions for shared experiences.
What does the SKI Šachtičky resort look like?
The Šachtičky resort is located 10 km from Banská Bystrica. It is suitable for both recreational and performance-oriented skiers. The resort offers 9 pistes with 4 lifts. The total length of the downhill pistes is approximately 10 km, with 3.6 km of easy, 4.8 km of medium difficult and 1.6 km of difficult ones. Two pistes are FIS-certified to organise international races. There is a Children’s area with two pistes and two lifts for the youngest skiers. The road to the resort is regularly groomed several times a day, but we recommend having snow chains with you.

Explore the history of Šachtičky
The Šachtičky ski resort was built in the second half of the 1970s by alpine skiing enthusiasts united in the ŠKP Červená Hviezda Banská Bystrica ski club. It offers 3 out of 4 pistes on the northern slopes with parameters that still make them ideal for quality training in slalom and giant slalom. Slope No. 1 has FIS homologation for slalom and giant slalom. Several generations of skiers who became successful representatives of Slovakia and took part in World Championship, and the Olympic Games have grown up in Šachtičky.
Šachtičky had the honour to welcome Petra Vlhová, who trained here during her first junior season.
How is the Šachtičky resort opened?
During the winter season and in good weather conditions, the ski resort is available from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The Children’s area is also open during the same time. If you want to check the current opening times of the resort before your visit or see it through a webcam, check the resort website. The most up-to-date information (even before it is published on their website) can be found on their social networks.
Ski school and ski kindergarten at the Šachtičky resort
The ASA Ski school and kindergarten are available to those who are just discovering the beauty of skiing or snowboarding. Also, for those who dare to hit the slopes after years and need to gain confidence and necessary skills. Enthusiasts can arrange private or group lessons, and groups from preschools and primary schools are welcome to use the services too.
Gopass card at Šachtičky
At the beginning of 2024, Šachtičky joined the Gopass programme. If you buy a ski pass through the Gopass app or website, you can go straight to the turnstiles and avoid queuing at the ticket offices. If you don’t have a Gopass card yet, no stress… after activation on www.gopass.travel, you will receive a message with a barcode to your mobile. If you show the code to the ski resort’s ticket office, the staff will issue your own Gopass card.
Buffet in the Šachtičky resort with an original name – “Divný les” (Strange forest)
If you’re a passionate skier, treat yourself to a glass of warm punch or hot chocolate at the buffet after enjoying the pistes. And if your skiing didn’t go as planned, don’t worry. The friendly staff will make you tea with rum. If you’re a perfect non-skier, that’s great too… The local buffet is a fantastic place with amazing views of Banská Bystrica and the surrounding mountains.
It also serves craft beer called Divný les, after which the buffet is named. Divný les is a mobile brewery, very popular in Banská Bystrica, combining the art of brewing beer with artistry in general – by using design labels created by local artists and more. Whether it’s the buffet or the beer, Divný les is an experience you simply must have! 👍
Tourist attractions near the Šachtičky resort
Šachtička observation tower
If you love heights and endless views or want to overcome your fear of heights, we recommend visiting the Šachtička observation tower. It is 16 metres high and offers views of the entire Šachtičky area, Špania dolina (valley) and the Horehronie region. If you happen to be among the first visitors to the observation tower, please note that it may be locked. But no stress, the key can be borrowed at a nearby hotel. The tower stands at the intersection of several hiking trails, so if you want to extend your trip, there’s much to explore. You can also visit the mining village of Špania Dolina.
The picturesque village of Špania Dolina boasts many historical treasures, monuments and interesting attractions. There is a special Mining horologe – a moving sculpture with a sound that opens to viewers at the top of every hour. It introduces figurines of miners working in a mine and demonstrations of their daily work. The Small mining educational trail in the area includes 7 stops with information boards and a map. It starts at the Klopačka guest house and ends at the Maximilián heap, which offers a breathtaking view of Špania Dolina and the surrounding mountains.
Slovak Ski Museum
If you’re at Šachtičky, don’t miss the Slovak Ski Museum in Podkonice. It’s about 18 km away from the resort by car, and the visit is worthwhile, no matter if you’re a skiing fan or a history enthusiast. Museum in numbers:
- Skiing history of the last 130 years,
- 650 exhibits of skis and ski poles,
- 85 pairs of ski boots.
People in Slovakia started enjoying snow sliding 100 years ago and there is a separate room dedicated to exhibits from this period. The tour will take you through a wooden, a racing, and an amateur room. If you didn’t know what “krňačky” are before, you’ll certainly find out there.
