Any idea what place we mean? Here are some clues: warmth in winter, a tropical paradise in Slovakia, sea therapy, diving with fish and treasure hunting, a constant temperature of 30°C. Got it?
We are talking about the Tatralandia water park in the beautiful region of Liptov, where one day is not enough (after looking at the map below, you’ll see why 😊).
The history of the Tatralandia thermal water park
The construction of the water park began in November 2002, by laying the foundation stone. Less than a year later, on 4th July 2003, Tatralandia opened its doors to the first visitors. It immediately became a hit and a sought-after attraction. In 2004, it won first place as for visitor numbers among Slovak tourist attractions (evaluated by the economic Trend weekly). That year, the water park expanded with a sauna world, new pools and slides. The Holiday Village Tatralandia accommodation section was added, which deserves attention and will be covered below.
In 2004, Tatralandia saw an incredible number of 550,000 visitors. Over the following years, the Tatralandia water park kept adding new attractions, pools, a covered tropical complex, relaxation zones and water slides. Today, Tatralandia is one of the largest water parks in Central Europe.
Thermal water at Tatralandia: its origin, composition and effects
The thermal water spring in Tatralandia, which is its heart and driving force, rises as deep as over 2,500 metres and has a temperature of 60.7°C. It is cooled to an appropriate temperature to help you enjoy the benefits. The geothermal water is approximately 27,000 years old, dating back to the Ice Age. It originates from the foothills of the Low Tatras. During this period, atmospheric water and melting crystal glaciers seeped into the depths, creating a massive underground reservoir heated by the Earth’s core. The thermal water of Tatralandia is highly mineralised, containing up to 5,253 kg of mineral substances in its thermal pools, which has positive effects on the human body at all times.
Due to its rich natural mineral content, the water is used not only for heating the premises, drinking water and seawater pools and for heating hot utility water, but it also serves for filling unique geothermal pools. The minerals present include calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium, which makes the water beneficial for the musculoskeletal and respiratory systems.
Tatralandia map and webcams
28 water slides, 14 pools, numerous attractions for children and adults, all on one map. If it seems to you that it’s impossible to visit all the places in one day, you’re right 😊. One day is not enough… see for yourself. To see the current situation in Tatralandia, check the webcams.
What can you experience in Tatralandia?
It’s difficult to answer this briefly, but the motto of Tatralandia says it all: “Summer all year round”. We won’t leave you guessing, though, and will introduce you to some truly interesting pools and attractions suitable for ages 0 to 99.
In the Tatralandia water park, the saltwater pools are worth mentioning and definitely worth a visit. The water composition in the White Lagoon pool is nearly identical to the Adriatic Sea and maintains a constant temperature of 34°C year-round, which you won’t experience at the Adriatic. Sea therapy, known as thalasso therapy, can be experienced in the Bubble Pool with massage beds or an air geyser.
The outdoor Thermal Pool with thermal water is divided into two parts – a sports section and a relaxation section. You can play volleyball and basketball in it. The Snorkelling Pool is interesting mainly for children, who can dive and explore fish and corals or hunt for lost treasure. However, they can frolic also in the freshwater Pirate Kids Pool with a Jumbo castle and water moat with slides. After an active day at Tatralandia, your little ones will literally look forward to bedtime. This has been a selection of year-round pools and now let’s take a closer look at the summer pools.
The summer pools are ideal to cool off and have fun during hot days. Pool 21 Attractions is aptly named after its 21 attractions: children’s slides, water swings, artificial rain, back and foot massages, and much more. The Amazonia Pool is tailored for our smallest guests and includes a tropical castle with palm trees, a snake and a slide. The 25-metre Swimming Pool is meant for swimmers and the Raftaria Pool serves as a landing pool for the summer slides.
The water slides at Tatralandia deserved their own article, so we’ve dedicated one to them.
