Špindlerův Mlýn is set for a major transformation. The project currently under construction will fundamentally change how skiers move between the resort’s two largest areas: Svatý Petr and Medvědín.
Connecting them is one of the biggest investments in Czech mountain infrastructure in recent years. The goal is clear: to eliminate the need to travel by car or ski bus and create a modern, comfortable and interconnected ski resort whose standards rival those of leading Alpine destinations.
One large resort instead of two separate ski areas
Today, Špindlerův Mlýn Ski Resort consists of several separate locations, with Svatý Petr and Medvědín among the largest. Together, they offer dozens of kilometres of pistes, but until now, travelling between them has relied mainly on road transport.
That is about to change.
Once the first phase is complete, skiers will be able to travel directly between the two areas on skis – without waiting for a ski bus or getting into a car. The new connection will improve comfort and safety while also increasing the resort’s capacity. It should also help reduce traffic in the centre of Špindlerův Mlýn.
New chairlift opening in the 2026/2027 winter season
The main highlight of the first phase will be the modern Audi Line Přehradní six-seater chairlift supplied by Leitner.
The chairlift, featuring heated seats and protective weather hoods, will run along a route approximately 1.4 kilometres long. It will transport up to 2,000 passengers per hour and reach the top in around four minutes.
The project will also include two new pistes – Přehradní and Lesní. These will create the new ski connection between the two parts of the resort.
“The most significant new feature of this winter season will be the modern six-seater chairlift. Our main priorities were passenger safety and comfort. We believe it will provide visitors with a fast and convenient connection between the two parts of the resort,” said René Hroneš, Director of Špindlerův Mlýn Ski Resort.
Construction is already visible across the resort
After months of preparatory and earthworks, the project is beginning to take shape. Visitors to the resort can now see the scale of the development for themselves.
Work is currently under way on the lift towers, both stations and other supporting structures along the entire route. Over the coming months, construction will continue with the installation of the lift technology, the haul rope and snowmaking system, as well as finishing work on the new pistes.
Another important part of the project will be a new bridge over the access road into Špindlerův Mlýn. Skiers will use it to travel along the new Lesní piste from Medvědín to the P1 terminal, which will become the main hub of the entire connection.
When will skiers take their first ride?
The first phase of the project is expected to open during the 2026/2027 winter season.
It will provide skiers with a one-way connection from Medvědín via the P1 terminal to Hromovka and onwards to Svatý Petr. The entire route will be accessible without a car or ski bus.
The second phase will follow and will include a new gondola lift to Medvědín. Its completion is planned for the 2027/2028 season.
Once both phases are complete, the result will be a fully interconnected ski resort offering convenient two-way travel between its two main areas. Špindlerův Mlýn will enter a new era of skiing – more modern, more comfortable and even more attractive to both domestic and international visitors.
