1. The most beautiful view
Mt Lomnický štít (2,634m) is the second highest peak in the High Tatras. Views of all directions are worth it no matter if you take a look at deep valleys, search for and discover well-known locations of Slovakia or neighbouring countries in the distance. With a cup of coffee on the terrace of the Dedo café, it is the perfect moment to tease your colleagues in the office with a provocative selfie and a breathtaking panorama in the background. All age groups will love the walk on a terrace levitating above steep rocks and the highest located botanical garden with precious plants that live in their habitat. Mt Lomnický štít is the only peak in the Tatras accessible with a cable car.
2. The largest tarn
Skalnaté pleso is known for a changeable water level height. On some days, waves slosh over the bridge due to strong wind, other time the amount of water decreases dramatically. The educational trail around the tarn offers a lot of interesting information about it and the fauna and flora in the Tatras. There are also contest questions of the Tatra Wilderness family game on the information boards to make the nice walk tailored for families with children more attractive. And if your kids still want to enjoy more, the Marmot land – an outdoor kid’s playground with climbing frames and wooden animals is located next to the cable car station building.
3. The highest located chairlift in Slovakia
If you are thinking about a cable car trip to Skalnaté Pleso, pay a 5 EUR surcharge online (6 EUR at the ticket office) and take the highest located chairlift in Slovakia to Lomnické sedlo (saddle, 2,190m). Follow a comfortable green-marked tourist trail from there to Mt Veľká Lomnická veža (2,215m), a great outlook spot and the highest peak in Lomnický hrebeň (ridge), which is accessible also for families with children thanks to the chairlift. And on the way, don’t forget to stop near the place where the mountain cottage of the main protagonists of the cult Slovak films – Copper Tower and Eagle Feather used to stand. If you are lucky, you might even catch sight of marmots on the meadows because this is their home.

Today, there is also an outlook tower. The gallery presents a collection of paintings by Júlia Zelená – “To the north of the country” these days and in the entrance area, there is an interesting exhibition with various photos depicting the history of the construction of the cable cars between Tatranská Lomnica and Mt Lomnický štít and the cable car of Mt Kasprowy wierch in Poland.
