A new ski season officially began at Štrbské Pleso in the High Tatras on Saturday, 6 December 2025. At the same time, a brand new detachable 8seater Porsche chairlift to Medvedia Kopa was launched. TMR invested €11 million in its construction, the largest investment in the resort in the past 15 years.
The construction progressed at a record pace. Only 173 days passed from the start of works on 16 June 2025 to the lift’s opening. It is the very first chairlift featuring PININFARINA design in Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Poland. According to TMR Chairman Igor Rattaj, the new chairlift significantly improves comfort and capacity, speeds up transport, and reduces waiting times for skiers.
Jaroslav Mačičák from LEITNER adds that the new CD8C Interski – Medvedia Kopa lift combines modern design, high comfort, energy efficiency and advanced safety features, while being engineered for stable operation even in challenging weather conditions.
The chairlift is also the first in Slovakia to carry the signature of the renowned Italian design studio PININFARINA. The designers behind legendary Ferrari and Maserati models have brought modern lines, aerodynamic shapes and a premium visual style to the Tatras.

What does “PININFARINA design” mean for a chairlift?
It refers to a specific visual style of chairs or cabins created by the Pininfarina design team. It is characterised by:
- elegant, modern lines,
- an aerodynamic shape,
- a premium appearance,
- high-quality materials,
- a strong focus on passenger comfort.
Thanks to these features, the lifts appear more luxurious, modern and better integrated into the mountain environment.rostredia.

Technology and comfort
The chairlift is equipped with the latest LEITNER innovations, including the DirectDrive system, which requires no gearbox or oil lubrication. This results in lower energy consumption, 15 dB reduced noise levels and easier maintenance.
The chairs are heated and fitted with anti-sway stabilisers for greater comfort on windy days. Boarding is made easier by an LED alignment platform that ensures smooth skier organisation before loading.
Environmental approach
Great attention was paid to protecting the natural environment during construction. Existing clearances were used, and by removing the old lift, the need for snowmaking, water consumption and electricity usage will be reduced. The new chairlift is therefore not only more comfortable, but also more environmentally friendly. It is equipped with certified bird deflectors to minimise the risk of collisions between birds and the lift cables.
