Discover the development of the mountain rescue service in Špindlerův Mlýn
On Saturday 17th June, we set out to visit our colleagues in Špindlerův Mlýn, where “The history of the mountain rescue service” exhibition was launched with a vernissage. The ORLEN company is the main exhibition partner and if you want to take a look too, you can do it until 1st October 2023.
Mountain rescue service exhibition
The exhibition is located in the innogy line cable car depot in St. Peter. The exhibition itself consists of 2 main parts. On the one hand, there are period photographs capturing various moments in the development of the Mountain Service, and then there is also a very interesting exhibition of historical and contemporary tools used by the Mountain Service to save human lives. An interesting revival of the exhibition is a quiz, which is linked to the exhibition of gadgets and will test your knowledge. From our experience, we can say that the quiz is not as easy as it seems and some questions were quite challenge.
Most of the displayed photographs had been made by Valerián Spusta, an avalanche specialist and a long-time professional member of the mountain rescue service, who had spent almost the whole second half of the 20th century on active duty. All displayed pictures come from the personal archive of author’s son Valerián Spusta Jr. All exhibited equipment and tools were lent by the Špindlerův Mlýn mountain service. The Orlen company as the main partner played a significant role in organising the exhibition.
Is it worth going to Špindlerův Mlýn to see the exhibition? Of course, it is. In addition to the exhibition itself, you can take a look at the shed where the ski lift chairs are kept in bad weather. The shed is usually not accessible for the public so this is a great chance to see the unique space with your own eyes. It is wheelchair-friendly and children as well as adults will find the exhibition interesting for sure.
