The new direct Wizz Air flight route from Gdańsk to Poprad turns travel between northern Poland and Slovakia into a surprisingly easy and fast experience.
The flight itself takes about 60 minutes. Including airport transfers, it is possible to get from the Baltic coast to the mountain scenery of the Tatras in approximately 2 hours of comfortable journey time.
The first flight from Gdańsk to Poprad as a symbol of connecting sea and mountains
The inaugural flight on the Gdańsk to Poprad Tatry route was more than just a standard passenger transfer. It also carried a strong symbolic meaning. Salt seawater and sand from the Baltic Sea were flown from the Polish coast to the Tatras, while crystal-clear water from a mountain stream and a spruce branch travelled back to Gdańsk.
As passengers, we felt we were taking part in something special – the renewal of an air connection that, after more than 13 years, once again links two tourism-rich regions.

Flying with Wizz Air: Fast, simple, stress-free
The Wizz Air flight was exactly what you would hope for from a short regional connection. Quick boarding, a smooth flight and on-time arrival in Poprad. After landing at Poprad-Tatry Airport, the location is the biggest surprise – the mountains are quite literally within reach.
Hotels in the High Tatras, the Liptov region, ski resorts and water parks are all easily accessible, within around one hour’s drive. In terms of convenience, this represents a significant competitive advantage compared to many other European mountain destinations.
An ideal air connection for a weekend break or a holiday in the Tatras
The flight schedule is set up very practically. During the winter season, flights operate twice a week – on Thursdays and Sundays – which is ideal for long weekends as well as classic week-long getaways. After winter, the timetable changes to Mondays and Fridays, with the route currently scheduled until 5th June 2026.
This opens the door not only to the winter season, but also to spring breaks, Easter holidays and popular May weekends in the mountains.

The importance of the route for the Tatras and Liptov
From the perspective of tourism, this is a strategic move. Polish visitors already rank among the most important foreign guests in the High Tatras and the Liptov region, accounting for more than 40% of all clients in some locations. The new air connection strengthens this trend even further. For Polish travellers looking for a fast route to the mountains, this is one of the most convenient ways to reach the Tatras.
At the same time, it represents the first concrete step towards opening northern Slovakia to visitors from northern Europe, as Gdańsk is a natural gateway to the Tricity metropolitan area with approximately 1.6 million inhabitants.
Conclusion: From the Baltic to the Tatras in a single morning
Our experience with the Wizz Air flight from Gdańsk to Poprad confirmed that travelling between the sea and the mountains has never been easier. In just 2 hours, you can swap the beach for mountain trails, wellness hotels or ski slopes. For the Tatras and Liptov, this connection is a strong boost; for travellers from Poland, it offers a convenient alternative; and for Slovakia, it means an opportunity to attract new visitors.

If someone is looking for a quick change of scenery without long transfers, this flight makes perfect sense.
